Description

A murder in rural Maine in a small summer colony presents a perfect hiding place for intrigue and a few Boston cops on the take. Against this backdrop, Peter Mars, cop turned author, creates another fast-paced mystery tinged with the greater moral question of what makes a decent cop go bad.
In A Taste for Money, Joseph O’Fallon, former altar boy, takes us from the Irish pubs of Boston to Quebec City, Canada, Old Orchard Beach, Belgrade Lakes in Maine, and in and out of dives and drug haunts in Boston’s back streets. Two cops in cahoots with a newspaper man, who runs a service station as a front for kickbacks and corruption, form a ring that sells some of the drugs taken from arrests before turning over to the court just enough to be used as evidence against the dealers. Any money discovered in the dealers’ possession disappears into the pockets of the cops. And any confiscated guns find their way to Ireland to continue the centuries old battle between the English settlers in the north and the Independent Irish in the south.
